Sun Life Financial Senior Vice-President Gary Comerford receives 2008 President's Award from Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce

    Award honours contribution to fostering trade between India and Canada.

    TORONTO, June 16 /CNW/ - Sun Life Financial Inc. (TSX/NYSE: SLF)
announced today that Gary Comerford, Senior Vice-President, International, was
honoured with the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC)'s 2008 President's
Award for his role in strengthening the trade relationship between Canada and
India.
    "Gary's vision, leadership and commitment over the past decade have been
key to the strong Indo-Canadian economic partnership that we enjoy today,"
said Sunil Jagasia, President, ICCC. "He worked tirelessly to help establish
strong connections to the Indian business community."
    Comerford led Sun Life Financial's effort to re-enter India after a 40
year absence. He was instrumental in establishing Birla Sun Life, Sun Life
Financial's joint venture with the Aditya Birla Group. Birla Sun Life is now
one of the top five privately-owned life insurers in India.
    "Receiving this award from the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce - a
leading voice for Indo-Canadian business for the past 29 years - is a great
honour for me personally and for Sun Life Financial," said Comerford. "The
ICCC has been a great partner to Sun Life Financial and this partnership was
one of the reasons for our success in India."
    Comerford received the award on June 14 at the Indo-Canada Chamber of
Commerce Annual Awards Gala, where 10 other Canadians were recognized for
their positive contribution to the Indo-Canadian community.
