Sun Life Financial's China operations recognized for exceptional corporate social responsibility by Canada China Business Council

TORONTO, Nov. 6 /CNW/ - Sun Life Financial and its joint venture partner in China, the China Everbright Group, have been honoured with the Exceptional Corporate Social Responsibility award by the Canada China Business Council. The inaugural award recognizes Sun Life Financial's philanthropic initiatives in China in the areas of education, health care, social services, environment and the insurance industry. "We are extremely proud to receive this prestigious award from the Canada China Business Council on behalf of our employees and advisors in China who have participated in numerous initiatives supporting the communities in which they live and work," said Stephan Rajotte, President, Sun Life Financial Asia. "This award is a testament to their efforts to make life brighter for thousands of people across China." The Canada China Business Council recognizes Canadian companies who have demonstrated exemplary corporate social responsibility programs in China and are seen as innovators and regarded as role models to their peers. Some of the initiatives Sun Life Everbright sponsored in China this year include:- A "Health Care for Women" campaign in Nanjing that provided free medical checks to 10,000 women - An initiative that collected more than 3,000 used calendar books that could be recycled as Braille paper and given to the School of Vision impaired of Tianjin to help students on their Braille education - A donation of RMB835,000 (CND $144,000) to the snowstorm stricken areas of southern China.Sun Life Everbright is a joint venture between Sun Life Financial and the China Everbright Group and operates in 18 cities across China offering products, services and advice to help individuals and their families achieve life's aspirations and protection.
